Retaining Walls

Retaining walls can transform difficult grades into functional & attractive areas. At Above Grade Landscape & Design, we construct retaining walls designed to manage elevation changes, define landscape areas & create usable space. Depending on the project, walls can be constructed from natural stone, granite, pavers or other appropriate materials.

Proper preparation is one of the most important aspects of retaining wall construction. Drainage, base preparation, wall configuration, surrounding grade & material selection all influence long-term performance. We evaluate how the wall will interact with patios, walkways, driveways, planting beds, stairs & other features before establishing the final design.

Retaining walls can create usable flat areas on properties with slopes. A previously difficult section of a yard may become a patio, lawn, garden or sitting area. On larger properties, multiple walls can create terraced levels that divide the landscape into distinct outdoor rooms.

The appearance of the wall is equally important. Natural stone can create an organic appearance, while granite can provide a more substantial architectural character. Caps, integrated steps, stone benches, plantings & lighting can further enhance the installation.

For Manchester-area properties, retaining walls can be particularly useful when changes in elevation affect how outdoor space can be used.

Above Grade Landscape & Design approaches each project by considering both structural requirements and overall landscape design. The finished wall should serve its practical purpose while looking like a natural part of the property.
